Those releases don't stop at just emulating the big screen experience; they raise the bar for what all portable titles can accomplish, online and off.<br /><br />That is why Namco Bandai and Arika's <em>Tekken 3D Prime Edition</em> will disappoint both new and casual Tekken fans. Because while the core game -- the parts in between "Round One, Fight!" and "K.O. You win!" -- are just as great as the <em>Tekken 6</em> I've played on consoles and in arcades, everything else is lacking.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/">Tekken 3D Prime Edition (Gamescom 2011)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/#4373514"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/tekkenprimegcbowling-alley-rooftop01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/#4373515"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/tekkenprimegcbowling-alley-rooftop02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/#4373516"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/tekkenprimegcbowling-alley-rooftop03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/#4373517"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/tekkenprimegcbryan02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/tekken-3d-prime-edition-gamescom-2011/#4373518"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2011/08/tekkenprimegcbryan03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/tekken-3d-prime-edition-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Tekken 3D Prime Edition review: Far from prime edition</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/tekken-3d-prime-edition-review/">Tekken 3D Prime Edition review: Far from prime edition</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Feb 2012 17:15:00 EST. Since the 3DS's launch, many gamers and reviewers have complained about the lack of titles that use the handheld's stereoscopic 3D features in a meaningful way capable of affecting or improving gameplay -- new experiences unavailable elsewhere, something to justify early adopters' expensive purchases.<br />
<br />
Some unaccommodating people would act as if 3DS games failing to meet this standard aren't worth their attention. The gimmick of an image that really looks like a dog's tongue is coming out of the screen to lick their face is not enough, not if the novelty ends there. "These puppy kisses mean nothing to me," they will sneer. "Take him away and drown this contemptible creature in a river."<br />
<br />
If there's a title that will please those demanding more depth to 3DS releases, as well as those puppy drowners, it's <a href="http://joystiq.com/game/super-mario-3d-land"><em>Super Mario 3D Land</em></a>. This platforming masterpiece is the <em>Avatar</em> of 3DS games, proof that 3D in this medium isn't crap when it's thoughtfully planned and executed, evidence that it's worth the (potential) literal headaches because you just might see something you've never seen before.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/24/editorial-lay-of-the-3d-land/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Editorial: Lay of the 3D Land</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2011/11/24/editorial-lay-of-the-3d-land/">Editorial: Lay of the 3D Land</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 24 Nov 2011 14:00:00 EST. <br />Even as a kid (or perhaps <span style="font-style: italic;">especially</span> as a kid), artist David Gibbons had a fascination for all things glow-in-the-dark. Really, though, what's there to <span style="font-style: italic;">not </span>like about glow-in-the-dark junk? <br /><br />David covered his bedroom walls with every glow-in-the-dark decoration he could find -- posters, stickers, and stars. He even wore glow-in-the-dark <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/pajamas">pajamas</a> and braces! While we never went that far, we happen to have a glow-in-the-dark rosary hanging off our car's rearview mirror (It's a Filipino thing! Also, it makes it easier for us to pick out our car in the mall parking lot at night.).<br /><br />Anyway, David used his childhood glow-in-the-dark obsession as inspiration to create the art piece we've featured a today, an illustration depicting all of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/christmas">Christmas</a> toys he wished for as a kid while laying awake at night, gazing at all their glow-in-the-dark incarnations blue-tacked to his walls and ceiling.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/the-ds-life-phosphorescence/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Phosphorescence</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/12/03/the-ds-life-phosphorescence/">The DS Life: Phosphorescence</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Dec 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />Despite the aged look of this week's image, this photograph was actually taken quite recently, as evidenced by the DS Lite. The scene is a familiar one, especially at family get-togethers, when gangs of younger cousins, nephews, and nieces roam the house, desperate in their search for any entertainment. Join us past the post break for the full photo.<br /><br />[<font color="red"><strong>Update:</strong></font> Original image has been removed at the request of copyright owner. <br />Yes, several other outlets have already posted their unboxing photos and first impressions of the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">Nintendo DSi</a>, but we've put together our own article documenting the imported system's arrival, as we have a few new things that we can share with you, those things being:<br />
<ul>
    <li>Photos of a cat stalking the box while we unearthed the DSi</li>
    <li>Surprises that we didn't expect with the DSi</li>
    <li>Video of us trying to load DS Fanboy on the DSi's new Browser</li>
    <li>Video of DSi Sound's 14 music visualizers</li>
    <li>Music from a renowned Wu-tang Clan rapper</li>

<br />As far as the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/nintendo-dsi">Nintendo DSi's</a> new features go, most of the opinions we've heard seem to think unkindly of the upcoming hardware's cameras -- some calling it a gimmick that needlessly raises the system's price, others describing it as an absent-minded addition that hardly competes with their digital cameras or <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">phones</a>.<br /><br />As someone who runs a column on photographs about handheld gamers, however, I'm thrilled about the whole deal! I expect to see a lot more image submissions from our readers after next, um, April, when the updated handheld finally comes to the States.<br /><br />With only eight days before the DSi debuts in <span style="font-style: italic;">Japan</span>, Nintendo has put out a trailer with a guide for the portable's new features, including the camera and image manipulation capabilities. Join us past the post break for the four-and-a-half-minute clip.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/the-ds-life-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: i</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/22/the-ds-life-i/">The DS Life: i</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 22 Oct 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />With Halloween on the way, it seemed like a good time to feature <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/cosplay">some cosplay</a> in The DS Life! As you can likely guess, the most popular costumed gamers we've posted about so far were the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/04/female-duo-sets-the-standard-for-link-cosplay/">cosplaying Link duo</a> (see gallery below), who took their inspiration from <span style="font-style: italic;">The Legend of Zelda's Four Swords</span> spin-off.<br /><br />We've picked out another group who've dressed themselves up as the colorful Link clones, and while they might not seem as "sensual" as the blondes we featured before, we think they better capture <span style="font-style: italic;">Four Swords'</span> bouyant, playful feel.<br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/the-ds-life-four-swordswomen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Four Swordswomen</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/15/the-ds-life-four-swordswomen/">The DS Life: Four Swordswomen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 15 Oct 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />Yes, two columns for the price of one! The price, of course, being <span style="font-style: italic;">nothing</span>.<br /><br />This week's installment of The DS Life / Promotional Consideration looks at an advertisement for <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/millionheir">Mystery Case Files: Millionheir</a> that ran in several "mainstream" publications like celebrity gossip magazines <span style="font-style: italic;">In Touch Weekly</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Us Weekly</span>. The print piece features <span style="font-style: italic;">Ugly Betty's</span> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/20/nintendo-wants-you-to-play-for-you-and-celebrities/">America Ferrera</a> and sub-Saharan Africa's leopard. Surprisingly, the latter doesn't maul the former, despite the ESRB's "violent references" warning.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/the-ds-life-promotional-consideration-leopard-print-ad/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life / Promotional Consideration: Leopard print ad</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/08/the-ds-life-promotional-consideration-leopard-print-ad/">The DS Life / Promotional Consideration: Leopard print ad</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 08 Oct 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />Rena and Lisa make up Vanilla Beans, a Japanese pop idol duo with a fanciful style that separates them from typical <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/search/?q=j-pop&amp;invocationType=wl-ds&amp;searchsubmit=">J-pop</a> groups. The two recently appeared at Tokyo's <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/shibuya">Shibuya Crossing</a> to promote their new music single with an interesting publicity stunt -- dressed as retro flight attendants, they sat inside a window-fronted truck for passer-bys to watch and wonder, "What in the world are those strangely dressed girls doing in there?"<br /><br />Sitting inside a closed window display all day can get boring, but the two thoughtfully brought something to pass the afternoon.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/the-ds-life-vanilla-beans/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Vanilla Beans</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/01/the-ds-life-vanilla-beans/">The DS Life: Vanilla Beans</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 01 Oct 2008 23:30:00 EST. <br />Over the course of this human-interest column, we've collected photographs of gamers from a variety of countries, collecting scenes from <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/10/24/the-ds-life-damaris/">Spain's parks</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/07/the-ds-life-the-coolest-guy-on-the-train/">South Korea subways</a>, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/30/the-ds-life-playing-outside/">La Palma's streets</a>, and even <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/the-ds-life-adrift-in-the-antarctic/">Antartica's glaciers</a>.<br /><br />For this week's image, we'll visit a new region, Central America -- Guatemala specifically -- where a young girl is teaching her uncle how to play with a Nintendo DS.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/the-ds-life-a-ds-country-for-old-men/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: A DS Country For Old Men</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/24/the-ds-life-a-ds-country-for-old-men/">The DS Life: A DS Country For Old Men</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 24 Sep 2008 23:59:00 EST. "As a child in Japan, I used to go to a temple and write out a wish on a piece of thin paper and tie it around the branch of a tree. Trees in temple courtyards were always filled with people's wish knots, which looked like white flowers blossoming from afar." - Yoko Ono<br /><br />Since the 1990s, Yoko Ono has helped install Wish Trees around the world, just like the ones she used to see in Japan, inviting passerbys to write down their wishes and tie them around the tree's branches. So far, the project has gathered over a hundred thousand wishes.<br /><br />Many of the wishes are what you'd expect from such an idealistic installation, hopes for peace on Earth and goodwill towards all men. Some are goofy, like petitions for super powers, and a few are even vulgar, <a href="http://flickr.com/photos/50568517@N00/2658715327/in/photostream/">such as this one here</a>. The bit of paper we're featuring for this edition of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/category/the-ds-life/">The DS Life</a>, however, is a wish that might melt your heart. Though there've been some <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/henry-hatsworth-in-the-puzzling-adventure/">great screenshots</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/e308-ea-tiburons-quirky-2d-platformer-puzzler-reappears/">amazing art</a> released for <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/henry-hatsworth/">Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure</a></em>, we've had to rely on old indirect-feed videos for previews of the action/puzzle hybrid in motion. Not so anymore!<br />
<br />
EA put out this short trailer to show off Henry's upcoming adventures, and it pretty much looks as awesome as we thought the game would be, if not <em>awesomer</em>. The game even has a combo counter at the bottom right, just like one of our favorite 2D platformers, <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-eternal-night">The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night</a></em>!<br />

<br />As someone who planned and enjoyed a wedding less than a year ago (actually, my wife organized it all, as I was busy blogging), I can tell you this -- it is a difficult thing to find a good wedding photographer.<br /><br />It's tempting to hire anyone local who seems the least bit adequate with a camera, so long as they're cheap. Even worse, you might consider relying on that friend of yours with a fancy digital camera, or on some dude videotaping the ceremony.<br /><br />But if you manage to fight off that rational part of you that keeps begging you to hire a photographer for a sensible price, the next time your friends pull out their bland <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/wedding">wedding</a> photo album, you'll be able to smugly think to yourself, "Ha, our wedding totally kicked their wedding's ass."<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-ds-life-his-and-hers/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: His and hers</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/10/the-ds-life-his-and-hers/">The DS Life: His and hers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 10 Sep 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />If you've often daydreamed of running Neo Geo games on your DS, but never thought it'd actually happen because of your technical incompetence, unfounded fears, or bad credit, Racketboy will make your dreams come true with a homebrew guide for loading up <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/neods">NeoDS</a></em> and playing these expensive arcade releases.<br /><br />Though the process is a bit more complicated than <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/22/emulating-the-gaming-world-on-ds/">emulating (non-pirated) games for other systems</a> on the DS, this walkthrough breaks down all the required steps for getting started. Jump past the post break for a video preview of <span style="font-style: italic;">Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">King of Fighters 2003</span>, and <span style="font-style: italic;">Metal Slug X</span> will look like on your portable once you get <em>NeoDS</em> running.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/06/quick-guide-for-running-neo-geo-games-on-your-ds/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Quick guide for running Neo Geo games on your DS</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/06/quick-guide-for-running-neo-geo-games-on-your-ds/">Quick guide for running Neo Geo games on your DS</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 13:00:00 EST. <br />Midas wasn't sure what he should do when the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/phone">phone</a>, which sat unattended across from him, began to beep. His father left the handset on the chair before stepping away for a moment, and Midas was too young to know what the appropriate action would be for situations such as these.<br /><br />Would it be rude if he answered the phone? How would he explain to the caller that his father was currently indisposed? What exactly does "indisposed" mean, anyway?<br /><br />Children aren't known for their patience, so it was only a few seconds before Midas hopped off his chair, peeked at the mobile's screen to see if it was a number he recognized, and lifted the phone to his ear.<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-ds-life-prank-call/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Prank call</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/03/the-ds-life-prank-call/">The DS Life: Prank call</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 03 Sep 2008 23:59:00 EST. Rrc2soft also hopes to eventually allow you to download and play through user-created levels, a feature we've already seen implemented wonderfully in <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/stillaliveds">StillAliveDS</a></em>.<br /><br />The clip only shows the tutorial level, but expect to see more as development continues!<br /><br />

Really, it's quite disgusting.<br /><br />Alekmaul hasn't revealed much about the project, except that it's coming this September sporting a 60 fps frame rate, likely without any sound due to technical difficulties implementing the audio. For now, you'll have to settle with the screenshots below!<br /><br />If this is your first time hearing about the game, <em>Black Tiger</em> was originally released to arcades in 1987 before later being ported to various home computer systems and game compilations for the PSP/PS2/Xbox 360. Designed to be the spiritual successor to <em>Ghosts 'n Goblins</em>, the game stars a barbarian on a quest to slay three dragons.<br /><br /><br />

Have a look at the game's soldiers of fortune in the gallery below!<br /><br />Strategy First is still helping Cypron Studios (Command and Destroy) handle development for the project while Empire Interactive, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/hope-for-long-lost-jagged-alliance-ds/">as GameFly predicted</a>, is taking over publishing duties. So long as this eventually ships, that's fine with us!<br /><br />For those of you who were to busy playing console releases to mess with PC titles in the mid-to-late 90s, the Jagged Alliance series comprises of tactical RPGs featuring player-controlled squads of mercenaries, each unit possessing different skills and personalities. Think of it as <em>X-COM</em>, but with more character and less aliens.<br /><br />On a negative note, as excited as we are to see this PC classic finally coming to the DS, the port's graphics, though more detailed, somehow manage to look less appealing than the <a href="http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/jagged-alliance/screenshots">graphics from the original Jagged Alliance for DOS</a>, which was released in 1994!<br /><br /><br />[Via press release]<br /><br />

<ol>
    <li>Controls designed specifically for one-handed play</li>
    <li><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rumble">Rumble pak</a> support</li>
</ol>
As you've probably surmised, <em>Sexy Blackjack Trainer</em> teaches you basic strategies and card-counting techniques for 21, rewarding your wins with NSFW pictures.<br /><br />The game comes in two flavors, each featuring photos from a different adult movie star -- Sunny Leone, who appeared in <em>Star 69: Strap Ons</em>, and Sora Aoi, who you might remember from her 2005 film, <em>Sora Is Your Do-Exactly-As-Told Toy</em>.<br /><br />Hedging his bets for the coding contest, Multiple: Option also entered a new version of his unique trivia game, <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/21/game-trivia-catechism-casual-homebrew-gaming-for-the-hardcore/"><em>Game Trivia Catechism</em></a>. The update adds two new modes, new chiptune tracks, and, presumably, more questions.<br /><br />

Razor blades are only good for two things -- slitting your wrists and <em>cutting lines of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/drugs">cocaine</a></em> -- not shaving.<br /><br />According to programmer Nyarlu, you score points in <em>MSD</em> for each hair you cut, but you also lose points for cutting yourself or if your beard starts to regrow. Apparently, there are also pimples you can pop to reverse the polarity of your magnet and earn double points, just like in real life.<br /><br />What really makes this game, however, are the victim's anxious eyes as he watches the blade drag across his cheeks, threatening to draw blood and carve off a chunk of flesh without warning. You can't see it in the screenshot, but his lips, two plump hot dogs pressed against each other, are trembling.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=137746&amp;goto=newpost">DCEmu</a>]<br /><br />

Even we were surprised to learn that, after a year of running this pictorial column every week, we've yet to cheaply resort to exploiting cat photos. <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/07/the-ds-life-best-friends-edition/">Dogs</a> and <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/22/the-ds-life-the-many-faces-of-noah-tsang/">babies</a>, however, are common fodder.<br /><br />Never one to let a good thing last, we've packed this week's edition of The DS Life with no less than nine kittens! Team-DSX, the doujin developer behind <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/half-elf-tentacle-assault/">Half-Elf Tentacle Assault</a></em> has announced that it has canceled the homebrew hentai game. You'll have to get your half-elf-assaulting kicks elsewhere!<br /><br />According to media reports, the preparation committee behind comic convention Comiket -- where Team-DSX was expected to debut and sell the title -- declined the developer's registration for the event. The group has since taken down its official page and posted an apology for the cancellation at its blog.<br /><br />Presumably, the Comiket rejection was due to Team-DSX's publicization that the game's ROM requires a flashcart. In fact, the developer went so far as to distribute double-sided flyers promoting <em>Half-Elf Tentacle Assault</em> on one side and advertising an <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/R4/">R4</a> distributor on the other.<br /><br />And so it goes, the lewd game has disappeared just as quickly and as quietly as it slithered into our lives, wrapping its slimy tendrils around our limbs and devastating our orifices, promising, "I'll call you sometime," before taking its leave. We'll spend a week waiting by the phone for that call, but we won't be surprised when it never comes.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://zepy.momotato.com/2008/08/12/half-elf-tentacle-rape-ds-stopped-before-release/">Canned Dogs</a>]<br /><br />

<br />
With <em>The Dark Knight</em> and Heath Ledger's stellar performance as the Joker still fresh in everyone's mind, who doesn't want to play a new, non-sucky Batman game? Of course, we have <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/lego-batman">LEGO Batman</a></em> to look forward to, but it's hard to feel like the Gotham bad-ass when you're controlling a plastic and deformed minifigure.<br />
<br />
The upcoming issue of <em>Game Informer</em>, due August 18th, has the scoop on publisher <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/eidos">Eidos Interactive's</a> forthcoming game, <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em>, and though it hasn't yet been revealed which consoles the title will appear on, we have hopes that one of those systems will be the Wii.<br />
<br />
Though the game's developer, London-based Rocksteady Studios (<em>Urban Chaos: Riot Response</em>), hasn't yet released anything for the Wii, its founders <em>did</em> have a hand in creating <em>Catwoman: The Game</em> for the GameCube -- that has to count for something, right?<br />
<br />
According to <em>Game Informer</em>, <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum</em> is an original title following a botched prison transfer which the Joker uses to his advantage, turning the psychiatric hospital's worst patients and Batman's worst enemies against the caped crusader. The game will feature "a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/bioshock"><em>Bioshock</em></a>" and a story co-written by Paul Dini, who you'll recognize from his work on <em>Batman: The Animated Series</em>.<br />
<br />

<br />
To jog your memory, the colorful 2D title follows British adventurer Henry Hatsworth as he explores 30+ levels over five exotic worlds, hunting down artifacts that will grant him new powers and ultimately unlock a golden mech suit. And that's just the top screen!<br />
<br />
On the touch screen, players are presented with a puzzle game which can be used to gain power ups and helath, as well as transform Hatsworth into different forms. Jump past the post break for videos of the game that were debuted earlier this year at GDC. <br />

The same thing that motivates most homebrew programmers: "It's the game I wanted to play when I was younger, a vision I've been following since then."<br /><br />The video above isn't a proper representation of his 20-hour-long adventure game, as it's only a technical demo of its assets and features (in fact, you would be better off watching the annotated version at <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrAYDSTkXgQ&amp;eurl=http://www.bobsgame.com/">the clip's Youtube page</a>), but Robert reassures us that the finished product will be like an RPG, except focusing on "story, puzzles, items, and communication instead of repetitive battles with palette-swapped enemies."<br /><br />The project, tentatively titled <em>Bob's Game</em>, doesn't have the high production values of big-budget titles backed by major or even minor dev teams, but the code, sprites, music, tiles, and everything else are all original, making for a very unique game. Rather, you'll pick from one of four countries to represent their tacit agendas and "fight terrorism."<br /><br />For instance, if you choose the Tibetans, you'll be tasked with dragging Chinese people out of your country before they "turn militant." If you decide to side with China, you'll need to tap the "revolting Tibetans" and turn them into farmers, otherwise "they'll suicide bomb." Also, for some reason, the Chinese farmers and terrorist Tibetans look like Raiden and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.<br /><br />If that isn't controversial enough, you have the option of playing as Israelis or Palestinians, too. On the Palestinian side, you'll be charged with converting Jews to Islam by dragging them off the map. If you play as the Israelis, you will have to tap and convert Hamas terrorists into Jews. Again, if you don't neutralize them in time, they blow up!<br /><br />Looks like <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/16/homophobic-homebrew-on-the-ds/">RanAway</a></em> and <em><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/25/hentai-homebrew-appears-as-real-demo/">In the Afternoon Sunshine</a></em> have some serious competition now when it comes to the most offensive homebrew DS game.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/">Olympic Battlefields</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/#964825"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/20080807-olympic-battlefields-ec-dsf-0-04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/#964824"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/20080807-olympic-battlefields-ec-dsf-0-05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/#964823"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/20080807-olympic-battlefields-ec-dsf-0-03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/#964822"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/20080807-olympic-battlefields-ec-dsf-0-02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/photos/olympic-battlefields/#964821"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/nintendo.joystiq.com/media/2008/08/20080807-olympic-battlefields-ec-dsf-0-06_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Via <a href="http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2148102683#post2148102683">DCEmu</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/07/olympic-battlefields-four-worlds-four-dreams/">Olympic Battlefields: Four worlds, four dreams</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 21:30:00 EST. <br />Despite the title, this post has nothing to do with <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/30/reflecting-on-prism-light-the-way/">Prism: Light the Way</a>, one of the DS's most interesting but overlooked puzzlers. Circuit City has the game on sale for $9.99 this week, though, so you should totally look into picking it up anyway! <br /><br />For this week's edition of The DS Life, we'll look at several images taken from photographer Patrick Brosset's collection of light painting shots, long-exposure photos taken with streaks of light drawn over the scene. What does this creative technique have to do with the Nintendo DS or gaming? Join us past the break to find out!<p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/the-ds-life-light-the-way/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The DS Life: Light the Way</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/the-ds-life-light-the-way/">The DS Life: Light the Way</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Aug 2008 23:59:00 EST. <br />Further proof that <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/Konami">Konami's</a> decision to dump its anime-inspired art direction was the right choice for the <span style="font-style: italic;">Castlevania</span> series! This boxart for <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/tag/order-of-ecclesia" style="font-style: italic;">Order of Ecclesia</a>, revealed at the game's Amazon product page, puts the previous two entries' covers to shame, especially the <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/10/mankind-ill-needs-a-boxart-such-as-this/">Konami's Best packaging for <span style="font-style: italic;">Dawn of Sorrow</span></a>.<br /><br />Also, we're amazed (and a bit confused) to see that the game will feature a giant plastic cocktail sword as a wieldable weapon! Why fumble with a vampire slaying whip when you can brandish a rapier that doubles as a drink stirrer?<br /><br />Jump past the post break for comparison shots of the previous two <span style="font-style: italic;">Castlevania</span> DS games' boxarts!<br /><br /><strong>See also:</strong> <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/09/promotional-consideration-behind-the-boxart/">Promotional Consideration: Behind the boxart</a><br /><br /><p><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/castlevania-boxart-order-of-colada/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Castlevania boxart: Order of Colada</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ffffcc;border:1px solid #ffff99;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.joystiq.com"><img src="http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif" alt="Joystiq" style="float:left;padding:0 5px 5px 0;" /></a><a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/castlevania-boxart-order-of-colada/">Castlevania boxart: Order of Colada</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.joystiq.com">Joystiq</a> on Wed, 06 Aug 2008 21:10:00 EST. Even with stars and white spots covering all the naughty bits on the images, we've hidden the cover past the post break, away from chaste eyes.<br /><br />Just one last quick caution -- the boxart depicts half-elf Colin and another heroine in suggestive scenes of forced sodomy.
